The United States was in the midst of the longest expansion in its history when the COVID-19 pandemic appeared. Unlike previous business cycle turning points where serious imbalances often could be discerned in advance, the current healthcare crisis was unforeseen and struck with devastating speed.
In this 45-minute session, Brian Jones, Financial Economist, will discuss the current economic landscape and explore the answers to some of the following questions:
- Will the policy measures of the Federal Reserve and Congress be enough?
- What other data points should we be looking at, given the weak economic surroundings?
- When will the potential economic recovery begin, assuming significant progress on the healthcare front?
- What shape will the bounce back take and what will determine its contours?
