The FHLBNY offers educational events as an added value to membership from both internal and external experts on a range of topics. Our events portfolio is made up of programs tailored for our members with information relevant to their business. Below are some events we have held in the past. We hope to see you at the next one!

2024 FHLBNY Member Symposium

Our 2024 Member Symposium, “Beyond Tomorrow: Stellar Strategies to Navigate the Future,” was held at the Metropolitan Club on April 11, and we thank all the members that joined us! It was our privilege to have our opening keynote session with economic insights from John C. Williams, President and CEO, Federal Reserve Bank of New York; who then engaged in a fireside chat with FHLBNY’s President and CEO, José R. González. Adam Goldstein, FHLBNY’s Chief Business Officer joined the conversation with a second fireside chat alongside José R. González. Wrapping up the event, we were honored to have Dr. Mike Massimino, former NASA Astronaut and New York Times Bestselling Author as our closing keynote. He shared personal stories about his challenges and triumphs in life and space, followed by with a Q&A and book signing. A big thank you to Dr. Massimino for inspiring us all beyond Earth!

We thank our esteemed presenters, Scott Hildenbrand, Chief Balance Sheet Strategist and Head of Piper Sandler Financial Strategies, Piper Sandler & Co. who shared a presentation about balance sheets; our housing panel, featuring Rachel Fee, Executive Director, New York Housing Conference; Charles Kilbourne, III, Managing Director, Financial Services Volunteer Corps and FHLBNY Board Member; Gwen O’Shea, President and CEO, Community Development Corp. of Long Island and Chair of the FHLBNY Affordable Housing Advisory Council; and Sunil Kapur, Managing Director, Deloitte and Siddharth Damle, Senior Manager, Deloitte, who shared a presentation on generative AI.

Our 2024 Member Symposium was a fantastic opportunity to connect with our members and discuss key updates and strategies on how we can best support members through our products, solutions, and services.

Suffolk County Community Financial Institutions Roundtable Discussion: Assessing the Needs and Discussing Solutions for our Businesses and Underserved Communities

As part of our continued mission to advance housing opportunity and local community development, the FHLBNY was honored to participate in the Suffolk County Community Financial Institutions Roundtable Discussion in Hauppauge, New York. Roundtable participants identified the challenges and needs of the local business community, Credit Unions, CDFIs, and SBDCs and explored possible ways to collaborate with financial assistance, lending and education. The FHLBNY provided a brief overview of current and previous programs to help with the recovery efforts in Long Island, such as the FHLBNY’s Small Business Recovery Grant Program, and the FHLBNY’s Community Investment Programs – Community Lending Program (CLP), Affordable Housing Program (AHP), and Homebuyer Dream Program® (HDP®). A special thanks to our fellow FHLBNY members and Suffolk County executives who joined us to help assess the needs and discuss solutions for local businesses and underserved communities.

We look forward to continuing the dialogue and future collaboration on affordable housing, small business assistance, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability programs that will help support Suffolk County’s local businesses and underserved communities for many years to come.

Suffolk County Community Financial Institutions Roundtable

2019 FHLBNY Member Symposium

This special program was open for all member-types and featured industry experts focusing on: strategy, technology, economics, banking and liquidity. Keynote Speaker: Robert O’Neill, Former SEAL Team Six Leader, Special Warfare Development Group, and New York Times Best-Selling Author.

Puerto Rico & U.S. Virgin Islands Member Forum

This event, open to all members in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, had a number of presenters including: the Commissioner of Financial Institutions for Puerto Rico, experts from the island on the economic landscape and technology, as well as a housing panel from local government officials.

Credit Union: Dinner & Discussions

A round table event held at a prestigious Manhattan establishment. This year’s program was hosted for Credit Unions and was an open-format for members to engage with FHLBNY leadership on topics like the secondary mortgage market, liquidity, the economic landscape and other relevant topics.
