The turmoil that has caused numerous mortgage providers to go out of business also creates an opportunity for our members to recapture market share in the mortgage markets. In an effort to help our members navigate these difficult times, generate more assets in the short- and long-term, and gain market share, the HLB has undertaken the following three new endeavors.

HLB Connections Forum
with Lewis S. Ranieri: "Making Profitable Connections for Asset Growth"

Register today! On Tuesday, April 22, the HLB will host this forum to present emerging industry opportunities and new services to help members generate more loan assets. The forum will feature an economic overview from industry legend Lewis Ranieri, chairman of the board of Root Markets, Inc., and a founder of the securitized mortgage market. Mr. Ranieri is an expert and innovator in both the mortgage and capital markets. His new firm has created Root Exchange, a revolutionary lead generation marketplace, benefiting members by enabling them to bid on leads and close deals.

The Root Exchange program will be presented at this forum, along with the HLB loan participation network, Member Loan Connection, described below. Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about these emerging opportunities and how they could help you generate more assets for your institution.

For more information visit the Forum website at www.fhlbny.com/event.

Member Loan Connection ("MLC")

Do you from time to time see loan opportunities that are larger than your legal lending limit or just too large to feel comfortable originating? Do loan-to-one borrower limitations restrict your origination’s efforts for commercial real estate or multifamily loans? The HLB's MLC network could provide a solution. Through this free service offered by the HLB, members can exchange communications with other HLB members who would like to sponsor or invest in loan participations.

Once you join the MLC network, your institution will be able to submit information about loans for which you seek a participant. The HLB will then send that information to all of the registered members in the MLC network. Members interested in your available loans would then contact your institution directly.

MLC is a closed network, with information exchanged only among members who sign up for this service. Registering will allow you to sponsor loan participations and receive communications regarding loan participation opportunities from other HLB members.

Loan announcements are sent out by the HLB via e-mail and a summary of available MLC loan participations is distributed bi-weekly. Terms and conditions are published on our website. Register today and take advantage of this opportunity to connect with other HLB members.

For more information visit the MLC website at www.fhlbny.com/mlc.

Member/Realtor Survey
(Conducted by Calder LaTour Inc.)

Many consumer mortgage decisions for home purchases are influenced by real estate agents. The recent crisis in the housing and credit markets has caused many mortgage brokers and bankers to go out of business, disrupting realtors' established relationships. This dislocation could create a window of opportunity for our members to regain market share of realtors' business.

To develop insight into these opportunities and to help our members increase their sourcing of residential mortgages through real estate agents, the HLB has engaged Calder LaTour Inc., a research firm located in Evanston, IL, to conduct a survey of our member institutions and real estate agents. Calder LaTour Inc. will be contacting a random group of members' senior residential loan officers over the next few weeks for a 10-minute interview. Specific responses will be kept confidential with reporting of results being at aggregate levels such as geographic region. Therefore, the HLB will not be able to associate any answers with specific respondents.

If you are contacted, we urge you to participate as it takes a small amount of time, with the potential for a significant benefit for you and for all our members. The HLB anticipates sharing the findings of the survey with our members in June.
