FHLBNY Employees Help Feed New York City’s Homeless

The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York (“FHLBNY”) recently partnered with New York City Relief to help make a difference in the lives of New York City’s homeless population. New York City Relief fulfills its mission through a mobile outreach center called The Relief Bus - a converted school bus that goes directly to those who are most vulnerable, lonely, and hurting to provide a meal, new socks, toiletries, and connections to resources that offer a way out of life on the streets. On October 14, FHLBNY employees spent the day volunteering on The Relief Bus, helping to bring New York City Relief’s assistance to those who need it most.

FHLBNY employees personally interacted and connected with between 300 and 500 homeless individuals by doing just that:  serving food to the hungry, lending an ear to listen, and showing compassion though acts of kindness. Through these actions, the volunteers reached out and provided hope for people who really need a friend.

Over the course of its 30-year history, The Relief Bus has witnessed men and women totally turn their lives around because someone they met on “The Bus” took the time to care. FHLBNY employees were inspired to step up and fill that role during the second annual Relief Bus Volunteer Day, walking away with a renewed sense of gratitude for things easily taken for granted including food, shelter, clothing, friends and family.
